We are participants in a living history group called L'Emprise de l'Escu
Gules (the Company of the Red Shield) that focuses on life in late
14th century France during the Hundred Years' War. The group is based just
east of Rochester, NY, and offers portrayals and demonstrations primarily
in the Rochester area and surrounding counties.
Living history is a great research and teaching tool! By basing our
reconstructions on medieval period manuscripts, archeological digs, and
studies, we add a whole new dimension through our own experience, and share
that with students of all ages.
Our activities include real hand-to-hand fighting, jousting games, medieval
cooking and crafts, medieval dance and music and any other aspect of
everyday life in the middle ages!
